Long overdue

I have failed to keep this blog updated and share my families experiences with OI like I had planned. Here I am, 3 years from my last entry.

Our daughter is now 5 years old and is a pretty normal child. She likes to play, run, skip, jump, twirl and do most things other children enjoy doing. She loves to draw, colour, and recently has been sounding out words by herself. Soon enough she'll be reading and writing on her own. She's learning basic math at home. Is one of the most kindest and compassionate kids I've ever met. She started school in September 2015... I cried seeing her off. She did amazing! Made friends, learned so much. It was a little scary those few times I had gotten a call from the school during school hours, thinking I'd hear someone on the other end saying she had broken a bone. It didn't happen.

Since her two tibia breaks years ago, Aurora has been relatively in the clear. We've had a few scares. She's been a lot more active since starting school, which has caused sore legs. We recently discovered she has knocked knee's, which we'll be discussing with Montreal Shriners next year. I believe her constantly falling, especially at school is because of her knee's. Always has bruises all over her legs.

Within the last two weeks we've had a few scares. Aurora fell off the slide going down and hurt her back. I was so afraid she had broken something, but thankfully everything was ok! Had another fall a few days ago and smashed her chin which has left a nasty bruise. Than, the day before she fell on her chin she broke her finger over the simplest thing. Pulling on her blanket! Cried for 5 minutes than was fine. She could bend and use her finger with no pain or troubles. I noticed the day after it was very swollen and bruised. I mentioned to my husband, whom also has OI, and he had said not to worry. They don't do anything for broken fingers anyways, that it didn't look broken and she wasn't in pain. I had this nagging feeling in my gut that said to take her to ER. So the next day we went. X-ray confirmed a break, and today we seen the hand Doctor. It was a tiny break on the top part of her finger, but it was ever so slightly shifted. We had the option of freezing and having him pop it back into place. I looked to my husband for guidance, this is all new to me and I wasn't sure if this is what we should do or go to the children's hospital. Unfortunately I had to make this decision on my own with no guidance. I felt I could trust this doctor to push it back into place.(We are very wary of local doctors as most have no experience with brittle bones. It's scary to think a doctor could easily break the bones by accident because they where a little too rough) The worst part was the freezing. I felt so bad as she laid there screaming and crying from the pain. Luckily it was over quickly. Than he pushed the bone back into place and its now splinted, still pain free too. We go back soon for a follow up. Just hoping the bone stayed straight.
